How to Copy a Tilda, Wix or Webflow Site to WordPress

Site builders optimize for arrival, not departure. Every week we move sites off Tilda, Wix and Webflow, and every builder breaks differently on the way out. Here is what each platform actually exports, what always needs rebuilding, and how the professional path works.

Tilda: the “HTML export” asterisk

Tilda’s paid plans offer HTML export, which sounds like freedom. The reality: exported pages depend on Tilda-hosted scripts and styles, forms stop working without Tilda’s backend, and the Zero-block markup is absolute-positioned coordinates, editable by nobody. The export is a snapshot, not a website.

What survives: images, texts, general structure reference.
What gets rebuilt: everything interactive, all responsive behavior, forms, and clean semantic markup for SEO.

Wix: no export, period

Wix offers no HTML export at all, the site lives and dies inside Wix. Copies are rebuilt from the rendered pages: we crawl the live site, extract content and assets, and reconstruct layout and interactions natively. Wix’s notoriously heavy runtime is also why clients leave: the same design rebuilt clean routinely cuts load time by half or more (see the restaurant chain case).

Wix-specific gotchas: media URLs are obfuscated and expire; dynamic pages (bookings, members) need functional re-engineering; Wix’s URL patterns (/post/ prefixes and hash-bang legacies) require careful redirect mapping.

Webflow: clean markup, locked CMS

Webflow exports beautiful static HTML/CSS, best-in-class among builders. Two catches: CMS collections (blogs, portfolios) are excluded from export on most plans, and interactions (IX2 animations) export as data attributes bound to Webflow’s JS, fragile outside their ecosystem.

The move: static pages port pleasantly; collections are exported as CSV and imported as WordPress custom post types; animations are reimplemented with standard libraries or CSS.

The rebuild process that works for all three

1. Crawl and inventory the live site: URLs, content, media, forms, tracking. (The same discipline as our migration checklist.)
2. Rebuild templates on a lean WordPress theme, matching breakpoints against the original, not the builder’s exported soup.
3. Migrate content into proper WordPress structures: pages, posts, custom types, so future editing is native, not HTML surgery.
4. Reconnect the plumbing: forms to your email/CRM, analytics, pixels, and 301 redirects for every changed URL.
5. Verify side by side, then switch DNS in a low-traffic window with the builder plan kept alive until confirmation.

What improves immediately after leaving

• Speed: builder runtimes weigh megabytes; clean rebuilds routinely jump from 40-60 to 90+ mobile PageSpeed.
• SEO ceiling: full schema control, real heading structures, editable everything.
• Costs: subscriptions end; standard hosting runs $5-20/month.
• Ownership: the site is files and a database you hold, backupable, movable, yours.
