What this checker actually tells you
The Wayback Machine crawls the web continuously, but coverage varies wildly: one site has two thousand snapshots, its neighbour has three. Before anyone promises to “restore your website from the archive”, the honest first step is measuring what the archive really holds. That is what this tool does: it queries the Internet Archive’s CDX index directly and reports the number of successful captures, how many distinct pages were saved, and how the snapshots spread across years.
How to read the results
Distinct pages is the number that matters most. A site with 40+ archived URLs can usually be restored almost completely. A site with five snapshots of the homepage and nothing else can only be partially reconstructed, though caches, saved PDFs and your own files often fill the gaps.
The year distribution tells you which design got archived. If the site was redesigned in 2022 and captures stop in 2021, the archive holds the old look. We always restore from the newest coherent snapshot set.
The domain is dead. Does that matter?
No. The archive is independent of the original server, which is the whole point: the site can be offline for years, the domain can be expired or owned by someone else, and the snapshots remain. If you rebuy the domain (or use a new one), everything recoverable can be brought back.

Does the website need to be online?
No. The checker queries the Internet Archive, not your server. Dead domains, expired domains and suspended sites all work.
What does "distinct pages saved" mean?
The number of unique URLs with at least one successful capture. It is the best single predictor of how complete a restoration can be.
The archive shows my old design. Can you restore the new one?
We restore whatever the newest snapshots contain. If the redesign was never crawled, we combine the archive with Google/Bing caches and any files you still have.
Is this check really free?
