WordPress.com to Self-Hosted WordPress

Same name, different world: WordPress.com rents you a restricted version of the software WordPress.org gives away. We move your site to self-hosting where every theme, plugin and monetization option unlocks.

From $199 2-5 days

What WordPress.com lets you take

  • All posts, pages, comments and media (native WXR export)
  • Users and authors
  • Followers (transferable via Jetpack)
  • Your custom domain

What we rebuild by hand

  • WordPress.com-proprietary theme customizations (rebuilt to match)
  • Some wordpress.com shortcodes and blocks render differently
  • Stats history (Jetpack can reconnect it)
  • Email subscriptions need Jetpack or an ESP reconnect
  • Media URLs still pointing at wordpress.com files (we localize every file)

Frequently asked questions

Is this the easiest migration you offer?

Technically yes: the export format is native. The catches are subtle: media files that keep loading from wordpress.com servers, proprietary blocks, and redirect handling from a free subdomain. We close all three properly.

I am on a free yoursite.wordpress.com address. Can rankings transfer?

WordPress.com sells a Site Redirect upgrade (~$13/year) that 301s your old subdomain to the new domain. It is worth buying for a year or two; combined with our on-site work, rankings transfer as well as they can.

Will my followers and email subscribers move?

Yes, via Jetpack's subscriber migration on the new site, or exported into a mailing tool you prefer. Either way you finally get the list as data you own.

What does self-hosting actually cost?

Ordinary hosting from $5-15/month plus a domain. Compare with WordPress.com's Business plan at $25/month, which is what you need there just to install plugins.
